How was it Started:

The WSUPA was started when a small group of Stand Up Paddleboard enthusiasts were sitting poolside at the home of a local race director. They were bouncing ideas off each other thinking of a fun way to bring more participants to their SUP races and further promote competition to a wider audience through out the country and even the world.

Before long they had a name for there local race event and an idea for a possible governing body/association that everyone could join and feel like they were all part of the larger community of Stand Up Paddleboarders. After meeting many like-minded individuals at this first annual event, this group wanted to expand on this idea by reaching out to the larger SUP community, through the many relationships that were formed at the event. Soon individuals with different backgrounds in the SUP world wanted to join the WSUPA and spread word helping shape its future. So the first Board Of Directors was formed. This board consist of Race Directors, Lifeguards, Doctors, Retailers and Business professionals, etc. A mission statement was written and the WSUPA was formed.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The WSUPA is dedicated to promoting and preserving the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding by insuring that the camaraderie and spirit that is the backbone of our sport is represented in every race event, festival or trade show that displays the WSUPA logo.

WSUPA's FUNCTION:

It is the function of the WSUPA to be the international umbrella organization which standardizes SUP events world wide.

We would like to include your organization in the hope that soon we will all be able to share the same vision. Furthermore it would be a great honor to have all of the associations, federations, leagues, organizations and clubs from all over the world to meet up in one special place every year to have a world wide event.

Please take a moment to log into the forum and post / promote your organization's events and happenings so that the WSUPA can support what you are doing for the SUP community. There is no charge for the forum, just sign up and use it to find out from other Stand Up Paddleboard enthusiasts what is new and exciting in this fast growing sport.
